The School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, organized a Five-Day National Level Faculty Development Programme titled “Modern Horizons in Pharma: From Design to Nanotechnology and Pedagogical Excellence” from 23rd February to 27th February 2026. The programme aimed to enhance knowledge in advanced drug design, regulatory affairs, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, and modern approaches in pharmaceutical research and teaching. Faculty members, research scholars, and students actively participated in the sessions.
Day 1: Dr. N. Kannappan, Professor, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, Chidambaram, who delivered an insightful lecture on “Role of Regulatory Affairs in the Drug Development Process.” The session emphasized regulatory requirements, documentation, and approval pathways in drug development.
Day 2: Dr. P. Yogeeswari, Dean and Senior Professor, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, Telangana, presented a session on “The Emerging Role of AI in Drug Design.” The talk highlighted artificial intelligence tools, computational modeling, and their impact on modern drug discovery.
Day 3: Dr. S. Gomathi, Assistant Professor, JSS College of Pharmacy, Udhagamandalam (Ooty), delivered a lecture on “Computational Mining of Herbal Databases for Lead Identification.” The session focused on the use of computational techniques to identify bioactive compounds from herbal resources.
Day 4: Dr. A. Puratchikody, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, University College of Engineering, BIT Campus, Anna University, Tiruchirappalli, delivered a talk on “Data Integration, Analysis and Knowledge Discovery: Integrated Bioinformatics Approaches to Identify Diagnostic Biomarkers for Diabetes and Ocular Glaucoma.” The session highlighted bioinformatics tools and biomarker discovery strategies.
Day 5: Dr. P. Senthilkumar, Professor and Head, Karpagam Academy of Higher Education, Coimbatore, on “Biomolecular Structural Characterization in Drug Discovery.” The lecture emphasized structural biology techniques and their role in modern drug discovery.
The programme provided a valuable platform for participants to gain knowledge on emerging pharmaceutical technologies, interdisciplinary research approaches, and innovative teaching methodologies. The sessions were highly informative, interactive, and beneficial for academic and research advancement.
