The Department of Optometry, School of Allied Health Sciences, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, successfully organized Vision Vista 2026 – Seeing Far Begins with Caring Now!, a two-day Eye Health Awareness Programme and Free Eye Screening Camp held on 2nd and 3rd July 2026. The event was conceived with the objective of cultivating awareness about preventive eye care, encouraging early detection of ocular disorders, and promoting lifelong visual wellness among the university community.
Designed as a comprehensive and interactive initiative, Vision Vista 2026 featured an Eye Education Centre, Free Eye Screening Camp, Eye Exercise Corner, Interactive Eye Health Games, and a Food Corner emphasizing nutrition for healthy vision. Through educational exhibits, anatomical eye models, and disease awareness displays, participants gained valuable insights into refractive errors, cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye disease, digital eye strain, and proper spectacle and contact lens care. Practical demonstrations of eye exercises further empowered visitors with simple yet effective techniques to alleviate visual fatigue and enhance ocular comfort.
The programme attracted an overwhelming response, welcoming nearly 700 visitors, including students, faculty members, administrative staff, drivers, and university employees. A total of 193 free eye screenings were conducted, along with 86 digital eye strain evaluations, facilitating early identification of vision-related concerns. Additionally, 13 spectacles, 10 colour contact lens prescriptions, and 10 dry eye prescriptions were provided, underscoring the department's commitment to accessible and evidence-based eye care. Interactive vision games transformed learning into an engaging experience, while the nutrition corner highlighted the pivotal role of vitamins, antioxidants, and balanced dietary practices in preserving healthy eyesight.
Vision Vista 2026 exemplified the Department of Optometry's unwavering dedication to community outreach, preventive healthcare, and experiential learning. By seamlessly integrating education, clinical services, wellness promotion, and public engagement, the programme inspired participants to prioritize regular eye examinations and adopt healthier visual habits. The remarkable success of this initiative stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of faculty members, student volunteers, and university leadership in fostering a culture of awareness, compassion, and excellence in eye health.
