Challenges and Opportunities in Organic Farming
The Department of Agricultural Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Tiruchirappalli, successfully organized a seminar on "Challenges and Opportunities in Organic Farming" on 24th July 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Room No. 301, SET Block.
The programme was convened under the guidance of Dr. Sasikumar Gurumoorthy, Dean (i/c), School of Engineering and Technology, and Dr. B. Ramesh, Associate Dean, School of Engineering and Technology.
The keynote session was delivered by Dr. M. Punithavathi, Senior Scientist and Head, Hans Roever Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Perambalur. She presented an insightful and inspiring talk on the importance of organic farming and its role in achieving sustainable agriculture.
During the session, Dr. Punithavathi explained the core principles of organic farming, highlighting its environmental and health benefits, certification procedures, market opportunities, and various government support schemes available to organic farmers. She also discussed the major challenges faced by organic farming practitioners, including lower initial yields, pest management, and marketing constraints, while sharing practical solutions and future prospects for overcoming these challenges.
The interactive session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who actively engaged in discussions and clarified their queries with the resource person. The seminar significantly enhanced participants' awareness of sustainable agricultural practices and motivated them to adopt eco-friendly farming methods for a healthier and more sustainable future.
